This form of image obfuscation is often seen in stock spam. Even the useless garbage text (hash buster) at the bottom of the e-mail is a trademark of stock spam.

All these techniques are implemented with only one goal in mind, to bypass the spam filters. Spam filters with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capabilities will have a hard time reading this image. The hash buster text randomizes the generic pattern of the e-mail and effectively renders any pattern-based spam filtering useless.
